Hi Everyone. I’m looking to complete a mortgage broking cert iv course and after recommendations on the best ones to choose from. I work full time at the moment in an unrelated field and want to do a course after hours/online. Minimum face to face contact hours preferably. Post completion I hope to build up clients part-time until I can transition away from my current full-time role.

I guess the key considerations are quality of the training, price obviously, duration, and making sure that which ever course I do will allow me to join a quality aggregator and/or get access to good deals across the vast majority of lenders on completion.

Any suggestions on which courses to consider?

    Hiya

The cert IV itself won’t help you land a decent aggregator or good deals with lenders.

Aggregators are generally hungry for business so will take on anyone with the appropriate quals in place. Some will charge a fixed fee – others a commission split.

Lenders generally offer good deals to brokers who generate them a high volume business – something that usually takes years to build up to.

The most important factor is lining up a good mentor – it’s an industry requirement for at least the first two years.

I personally used AAMC back in the day – they were ok. Can’t complain.

    Cheers

    Jamie

I started broking pre-aggregators in the late 80’s when qualification were not a requirement.

From memory i used Intellitrain for my Cert V which is now Australis College and they were very good.

As Jamie mentioned finding a good Aggregator is the hard part.

Someone like FAST, PLAN or Choice probably won’t take you on as a new broker so start with someone who is likely to offer you some element of support which i hate to say you will pay for.

    Cheers

I recommend Kaplan – according to one of my staff they just updated their course which was needed.

AAMC is where I did mine. Good place to do it.

I would probably just recommend the cheapest place you can find as the course itself is not something you can really rely on for knowledge. You get that when actually doing.

Don’t you need the diploma course now, and not just the Cert IV?

Thanks guys. I found one that does the combined Cert 4 and diploma. Appreciate the assistance.
