Property investment research tools

Hi,
I have decided to develop property.
Are there any research tools out there that I can use to work out if an area or type of development is good?
I mean in the form of websites, spreadsheets, etc?

I know realestate.com.au and while it gives suburb profiles, it is one suburb at a time.
Is there something I can use that gives a wider picture?

Any advice is highly appreciated.
