    Hi all

    Hope everyone is doing well.

I am looking at buying a block of flats for a refurb.

They are brick outside, with fibro walls internally.

I suspect the fibro contains asbestos.

I am looking at doing a basic reno on each of them (i.e. new kitchen/shower/vanity/toilet).

This would necessarily involve removal of the existing kitchen/bathroom and installation of new benches, showers, power points – that sort of thing.

My question how difficult is it to go about this with the asbestos issue? Will it be a problem getting tradesmen?

My thoughts are that it must be able to be done as there millions of homes out there that have been renovated that contain asbestos but I am just wondering whether it adds much to the costs and what precautions HAVE to be taken.

Also, I am wondering whether I can just plasterboard over the fibro walls to give the walls a nicer finish.

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards

    Ben

If you conduct a pest and building inspection they will be able to tell you. If it's a block of units that are already strata titled it will most likely be in the strata reports from memory every few years or so you need to get the building inspected for asbestos or they check on the asbestos to see if it is secure and not in any danger to the residents/guests.
