Hi guys, silly question im sure. For things like utilities and insurance, is an invoice or payment request sufficient for record keeping? or would the ATO like a tax receipt showing proof of payment?

    Thanks!

Hi minds-eye, I am not an accountant, as I understand it a copy of the invoice and your bank statement confirming where the funds came from will suffice.

Also not an accountant but I assume they'd want confirmation that it's been paid – an invoice/payment request alone doesn't show that.

    Cheers

When you pay a bill you get a receipt number.  Write the receipt number on the bill. That should suffice.

Even if you were audited I doubt they'd go through your bank accounts and ask to see where it was debited from.

I write the receipt number and where it was paid from. eg Bpay St George.
