Hi guys, we are currently subdividing a property, and have received the planning permit back.  Most conditions seem pretty standard, however there is one that states 'fibre ready telecommunications facilities have been provided in accordance with any industry specifications  ………unless the applicant can demonstrate that the land is in an area where the NBN will not be provided by optical fibre'.

The block is quite long and has road frontage at each end. One end has all services at the front door as it is on a suburban bitumen road, whereas the back block faces onto a gravel road, and we are having to pay for services to be run about 100 metres down this road from the main bitumen road.  Our concern is that if we have to provide optic fibre, this will cost quite a lot of money for infrastructure that may not be hooked up for several years – if at all – and could even be superseded in that time.

Apparently this condition is new wording – have any developers struck this condition?  Any suggestions on how to handle this?

    thanks

In Brisbane City Council where there is no direct street frontage, eg battle axe block, we have had to put in a pit in the footpath, a pit at the other end of the access way and then conduit of sufficient size to carry the cables.
