Hey Gang,
I'm trying to find an accurate site that has a list of every town/suburb/city in Australia, and that also lists its population.
I'm currently using http://www.fallingrain.com/world/AS/ , which is good, but tends to have some inaccuracies.
Does anyone know of any sites that would make me squeal with delight?
Many thanks
Hi Sebastian
That's actually a pretty nifty website – thanks for sharing.
The ABS website is an obvious one – but something tells me that this won't be news to you….so it prob won't receive a squeal of delight.
I wonder if it would be possible to download an entire dataset of every town in the country by population….
Most towns have wikipedia pages which can be handy – providing the info is accurate.
Cheers
Jamie

Thanks Jamie & Cjay,
Yes, I've looked throughout the ABS website, and can't find a complete list. It was only the second time I've been
on there, though.
SQM research is also a fantastic resource, except I'm not at that stage of my research yet; still just trying to get a
solid list of town/suburbs/cities with populations next to the name.
Thanks again.
Never forget good ol' Wikipedia, actually has quite a lot of data on towns/cities/councils/suburbs across Australia. Includes population and economic indicators, infrastructure etc.

Would always be slightly cautious of Wikipedia .
We were out researching some areas for a forum client who was using our Buyers Agents service and found the actual towns population compared to good old Wik was more than a few thousand out.
Like anything check and then double check.

Here's an interesting article relating to the reliability of Wikipedia compared to Britannica: http://news.cnet.com/2100-1038_3-5997332.html
But yes, obviously gou want to be checking many sources before keeping areas on the list.
