Anybody got opinions on roof restoration. We have an old house in Perth with a tile roof we have been renovating and want to get the roof painted. I have spoken to the larger roof restoration companies and their quotes seem quite expensive. A friend told me I am better off getting a tiler to come in and do the repair work and then a painter to come and paint the roof. Does anybody know a reliable roof painter?

I did mine myself.
I got all the instructions from the paint company and one of them even offered free spray hire with the paint.
I also hired a decent Gerni. My domestic one simply took to long.
The two lessons I learnt quicky was : Water makes your tiles slippery, use caution/ fall arresting equipment.
Dont paint yourself into a corner with out a ladder.
…and move all cars out of close proximity.
I received a quote a few months back for an IP in Canberra – it was almost $6k for re-pointing, fixing a few tiles and a few coats of paint. That was after a discount if I displayed one of their signs on the front yard.
I'm sure there's cheaper options out there – but I guess it will depend on the size of the roof as well.

I have thought about doing it myself but was a bit worried about the over spray factor. I have a kick arse pressure washer already so all I need is the spray gun. Airless I assume?
What was the name of the paint company? Are you in WA??
Cheers for the lessons learnt tips! I have found myself stuck in a corner many times before but I can honestly say I have never painted myself into a corner. That would have been a first.

Having similar problem. I am in perth and have cement tile roof, had it recoated about 10 years ago. now paint faded, moss growing on tiles so decided I would maybe replace with colorbond. Now I am more confused than ever with what I should do. Roof restoration guy today said they would do all the maintenance and a painter using their paint would paint separate as they don't recoat over another companies paint!!!!! Before to day I had quotes for colorbond of $25,000 up to $28,000 and that is not with engineer fee, indemnity insurance and site plans having to be submitted. So it has gone up to about $30,000. To have roof recoated via this companies painter and having them maintain it first,, it looks like $5000 . My question is which is better in the long term. Getting each companies speels and I really am more confused than ever. Lets face it paying $5000 is better than $30000 but not if it doesn't last at least 10-15 years like my last one. Colorbond only guaranteed about 20 years I think.

The guys at Permacoat have a special sealer they use and can guarantee their work for 20 years. Dont know if they will still be around in 20 years thats the guarantee they offer. The house Im renovating is only small and they quoted $3200 for the lot.
I assume this is your PPR and if that is the case then it just depends on what you are comfortable with. If you like the look of colorbond more than tiles and can afford it then do it. Lets face it, for 5K you can get the roof repainted every 5 years for the next 20 years and still come out on top compared to colorbond. If its an IP I would just get it painted.
