    I have been looking at buying residential proerty at auction in Perth and have been  told that I would be responsibile for outstanding costs such as rates and taxes.  Isn't this the responsibility of the seller and sorted pro rata at settlement? Any other hidden costs that I should be aware of?

    Would depend on what is in the contract I think. Watch out for land tax too.
