All Topics / Help Needed! / Building a Team in Perth
Hi All
My partner and I are just starting out and we are looking for team members to help us with property investing.
Does anyone know of any advisors from the following list that also invest in real estate and are based in Perth.
Mentor
Accoutants/CPA
Lawyers/Legal Counsel
Home Inspector
Real Estate Agent/Broker
Mortgage Broker/Company/Lender
Insurance Agent
Property Manager/Company
Tax Strategists/Estate PlannerAny information would be great. Thanks very much!
Hi Marchmish
Whilst i believe certain experts need to be on hand and probably you want to meet them in person their are many professionals where modern day technology means they can be intra or inter state. Email / phone and skype mean the country becomes a lot small.
I for one have litterally hundreds and hundreds of clients all around the Country and indeed the world.
Took a call a couple of nights ago from a lady in Abu Dhabi who was a forum member and wanted me to assist in setting up her loan structure for the purchase of a couple of properties in Melbourne. She was over there thru work so unlikely i will ever meet her but more importantly she may not see her properties for many years to come.
It is not for all but in this busy age we all live in and when most loan applications are lodged electronically email has become a godsend for communication.
Gotta go and respond to a couple that have just come in from forum members lol.
Cheers
Yours in Finance

Thanks for your information, it's such a big help.
Derek, if you could give me the name of a Lawyer and Mortgage Broker, that would be great!
Richard, I will consider using advisors that are out of State at a later stage. I'll keep your details for the future.
Many thanks
You north or south of the river – does it make a difference to you?
We are North but we can travel a bit for great advice!
I agree with what Richard has said. Technology makes life easier – everything can be done via email and phone. I've even got clients 10 minutes away from where I live that I've never met – for some people, they find it convenient to sort everything out online.
Cheers

Sertainly technology has changed the game. Reputable people can be found all over the world to do business with. I undertook a vendor finance agreement with a company from Melbourne on a property in Tasmania and I live remote NW WA.
An exercise I recently went through was to build a team – as you would have it – in New Zealand knowing little about the Country and its people. I began reading a number of forums, building a contacts list, and then making contact through e-mail initially then skype. I now have a trustworthy and knowledgable team. My intentions were clear from the onset which helped get the right people on board for the journey.
I agree with Richard and Jamie. Investing is global as is your knowledge base.
Taking a step back, have you looked into your strategy?
The reason for this is different people specialise in different areas and just because they succeed in one strategy doesn't always mean that it would suit you.
The main three strategies include:
Buying and holding
Flipping
repackagingThen there are subcategories within these main strategies:
Buying and holding
- Buying, renovating and holding (last two are interchangeable)
- Buying, developing and holding (last two are interchangeable)
- Buying at a discount and holding
- Cash flow property
- Capital growth property
- Commercial property
- The list goes on…
Flipping
- Renovate and sell
- Develop and sell
- Discount to market value, re-advertise and sell
- Again, the list goes on…
Repackaging
- Buy and lease option
- Vanilla Options
- Rent to buy
- Again & again, the list goes on…
I'm not arguing at the merit of each different strategy as I have my own personal biases as to what's better/worse. However, always consider that the team you put together for one strategy is not always the best team for another strategy. All to often we want and easy solution, and remember you are part of the team too.
It is a little cheeky, but what can you bring to the table which will help the team?
Best of luck,
Kent
Hi Kent
Thanks for your suggestions.
Yes, we have thought about a strategy. We are looking at buying single family homes at a discount and holding; renting for passive income.
Michelle
That's a good strategy, just stay away from brand new and look to buy in already well established suburbs (avoid house and land packages).
Hi,
I hope the thread starter don't mind me posting here since its related.
I'm also interested looking for some recommendations for Engineers, Surveyors, Accountants and Builder to advice and assist me in my upcoming development project. Anyone can recommend me a few goods one to check out? For accountants, any other options other than Shreeve and Carslake?Your assistance is very much appreciated!
