All Topics / Help Needed! / Investments in Alpha
I bought a house and the block of land next door ( all up 2024 sqm ) in early 2009 in anticipation of these projects going ahead.
Next year should see the place boom.
Beware the flood areas as Alpha gets smashed by floods.
For anyone interested in more information on Alpha and the huge potential of the Galilee Basin, here is a link to Hancock coal…
Thanks for that Dubstep – I always had faith that these projects will get of the ground
newbie here,
I have read a report that suggests that there will be new mine going in the Alpha area, anyone know about this location ?
……………………………..
Hi ft,
Alpha is a small town of about 500 people and around 250 houses.
The highway cuts through town North to South, The East side is what floods the worst whilst the west slopes uphill.
The caravan park has a few cabins which are about $100 per night and the pub/motel has rooms for about $130 per night and that's about it for accommodation.
The Waratah and Hancock/GVK mines proposed are about 40 min north and Bandanna's proposed is about 15 west, as previously noted, Emerald is an hour and a half East. ( that's were you go for your groceries ).
The water and electricity have been designed :

The enviro approvals are at differing stages for the 3 companies with GVK/Hancock the most advanced, expected mid year 2012:

There are 4 companies proposing rail lines from there to Abbot point ( GVK/Hancock, Waratah, Adani and QR National ) and the Barcaldine regional council are investing 100 million to upgrade the Alpha aerodrome to accommodate the fly in / out planes.
GVK/Hancock have almost completed the equity raising for the 10 billion required to construct the mine rail and port facilities :
Lots of time and money have been invested due to the huge coal reserves in the Galilee but the approvals to proceed have not been given yet.
Please carry out your own investigations and DD before making any investment decisions, I hope this has helped to give you a bit of info on Alpha.

Today the Federal Environmental Minister ( Tony Burke ) has given the approvals for the Hancock/GVK coal terminal at Abbot point.
The project has now received all major state and federal approvals.
When will things start to happen in Galilee Basin ?

Is it considered "too late" to enter the market?
I saw a house advertised on Domain for 279K, which was sold for just over 10K in 2001 and 130K in 2007.

Depends on which market, hold time, growth drivers, risk profile along with many other considerations.
Hedge the risk and invest in these regional hubs that will support the development of the Galilee Basin resources.
This is a significant time in history as we are at the infantile stages of the opening of a whole new region (Basin) supporting a huge capacity to mine coal and it looks like gas as well.
The position, right now…today is comparable to getting in at the bottom of other similar resource rich regions in the country such as the Bowen Basin or North West WA.
I was looking at realestate online and stumbled upon this

Too good to be true ?
You have to remove it though. I would say a developer is going to build units or something on the land and instead of having to pay for demolition they want to make money and sell it off cheap.
