I sanded a wall without realising it was asbestos it had paint on it already but some glue in top that I was sanding back before re painting. I didn’t get down to blue fibers so I just think I sanded the paint. A family member came in and told me soon after I started so I did nt actually sand much back at all. Would I have disturbed the asbestos or just the paint?? It’s not a fibrous asbestos wall a smooth one that’s what threw me!! What would have been the chance of any fibers being removed??

Unless you broke the sheet or took the paint back to bare cement there’s a very remote chance of having released any fibres whatsoever. Any which were released would most likely have been bonded to the paint.

Asbestos only becomes dangerous when it has deteriorated or been damaged. A little sanding of the surface paint, provided the wall is fundamentally sound, shouldn't prove to be an issue.

Why not ask an expert to come and have a quick look? The amount you pay will surely be worth it in peace of mind…<br /:)” title=”>:)” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

I’ve been in a similar situation and received the same advice – as long as the sheet wasn’t broken, then it should be fine.

    Cheers
