All Topics / Help Needed! / ATO – Private Ruling
I'd been advised by my accountant to get a private ruling for the family trust which was set-up a few years ago by another accountant. So I took her advice and put in the application for a private ruling in November 2010 but still awaiting answers. Anyone know how long it normally takes for the ATO to issue a private ruling from time of application??
I'm putting all my investing plans on hold waiting for a reply.I am also unhappy because my accountant is not returning my calls or emails.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Any suggestions on what I can do to speed things up or can you recommend an accountant specialise in trusts.Thank you in advance.
It should take approx 28 days so if you applied in November i would phone them up to check on the progress.
I have cut and paste the info below from the ATO website
We aim to give you a private ruling within 28 days of receiving all the necessary information from you. If we cannot give you a private ruling within the relevant time period, we aim to contact you within 14 days of receiving all the necessary information to discuss an appropriate reply date.

The earlier you call the ATO in the morning the less time you have to wait listening to elevator music.
Best of luck
