    Hi All,

Does anyone know the correct real estate course, which I can do online/externally which is very comprehensive and allow to me to basically have enough knowledge to open my own real estate agency.

I have enough drive to do it, but need a course which teaches me most of what i need to know.

From my understanding most courses out there just allow one to become a real estate agent. Although I would be working as a real estate agent for myself, I just want to know is there anything more I must do in order to open my real estate business? Or is it more like any other business, if you have the guts and drive you can just go out and do it- no special qualification needed?

I currently live in Canberra, just in case difference courses are suitable for different states.

    Thanks everyone.
    Joe

I’m not sure about the ACT but the minimum requirement in NSW is the licence which requires completion of the certificate IV. Probably best completed thru tafe in conjunction with work experience @ an agency.

    Hi Joe
Hold that thought, extend the time line. Courses provide the knowledge, but not the operational survival strategies necessary to run a traditional Real Estate office & Agency, and get through the first 3 years. Would strongly suggest you work with an agent for at least 12 months before deciding to open your own agency, assuming you mean the traditional type REA office.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Scott especially, I called about the cert IV and your right, thats the course im looking for. It costs around $2.5 grand and takes about a year part time (doing it externally). The lady said it is enough info for you to learn pretty much most things, and can open your own business with it. There is a diploma in real estate, which is double the price, but since I live in ACT/NSW I dont “need” to do it so ill be sticking with the cheaper option.

I will be taking others advice regarding doing some work experience first though, hopefully can just work fri/sat/sun or something like that.

    Cheers

    Other alternatives:

NSW TAFE Cert IV (Correspondence) OTEN is only $958, self paced.

REI NSW – REI offers the course over 5 days

You will need to check if the ACT has a couple of different subjects as the law changes slightly between states and territories.

Before you can work in the industry you have to be registered – eg TAFE $470 for 3 subjects.
