    Hi everyone,
I'm looking at a 100 year old apartment in a small building in the city.  It looks fantastic, but I worry about hidden problems with a building this old.  Does anyone with experience in very old properties have any advice on what I should specifically be looking for?  Wiring and plumbing spring to mind, as does rising damp.  Appreciate any advice.
    Rgds,
    Jack

Check strata fees and report carefully. As you said there may be some costly work needed.
In Sydney (not sure what city you are talking about) there are some very old buildings that I know need (and have had) extensive work done. Can be in the $100K's.

Thanks for that.  It's in Melbourne.  I'll look into the fees.

also note that the property may be company titled making lending more difficult.

There may be outstanding fire upgrading required, can be costly.

OK, I'll look into that too.  Cheers
