Can anyone provide some figures and info on this ?
What is the cost ?
Whose money is being spent ? Ours or theirs ?
What better use could we put the funds towards ?
What would the cost be for :
1. Negative political advertising about the other party or candidate ?
2. Excessive ads – the ones they keep playing after we've seen them 5 times ?And how many worthy community projects get no funding at all, while political campaigns have huge budgets ?
It's a racket, I for one have had enough of 'em.
Cheers

Hi thecrest,
Don't forget their money is our tax money.
Labor spends and Liberals save, hence the name be liberal.
Every promise Gillard makes will send us further into debt, when they took over we were in surplus now we are in debt.
I believe we are in a "subsidized recession" spending not to go broke.
Have you read the book "conspiracy of the rich"?
Learn the game and change the rules to better your financial position, is my opinion.

LREA authorSomeone sent me this yesterday, helps with perspective on the number " one billion ".
Can't vouch for its mathematical accuracy, but it's interesting.
Conspiracy of the Rich, yes read it, don't have the knowledge or time to check his claims, but
I agree we're an ant heap being mined by the powers that be.
I've seen first hand the weapon of illiteracy wielded by Govts to control the masses, nasty. An example is providing primary education in the local language, then come high school switch to all English, few slip through. Maintains a dumbed down population and large unskilled workforce.
Definately education and availability of information is the key, whether it's financial or political.
No wonder Govts fear the internet.Quote by: Ross Greenwood of Money News.
What is a Billion?
How many zeros in a billion???
This is too true to be funny…
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's releases.
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
Ouch
We note Gillard still splurges on election campaign ads, but won't commit funds for regional medical services like Gulgong, NSW, for instance.
It's OK for Gillard – if she gets sick while sucking up for votes in that area, she'll chopper out at taxpayers' expense to the best medical facilities in Australia. It's mind over matter with pollies, they don't mind and we don't matter.Cheers

…if only every seat was marginal…
Then the nation would be both fiscally and morally bankrupt.
hehe probably – perhaps it might eventually give cause for a real third alternative…
thecrest,
Not sure on expenditure, but public funding goes something like this:
Each political party who polls over 4% of the primary vote in any seat in the House of Reps gets ~$2.30 per vote. Same in the Senate. http://www.aec.gov.au/Parties_and_Representatives/public_funding/index.htm
There's private funding as well on top of this.

Go as far as you can see and you will see further.

That's rubbish. The two parties are pretty much similar in their spending promises. Both have promised to get the budget back to surplus. To say one saves and the other spends is not right. Do you remember the spend-a-thons at the Liberal party launches in 2004 and 2007?
