I’m looking at building two 2-storey townhouses with the intention to rent. I’m hoping for rental income in the $650+ range from each to give you some idea of the market I am aiming at.

The houses will be about 40M back from the main street, along which Telstra’s telephone and cable networks run.

What cabling would you suggest to be done at construction? Telephone, Foxtel?

I’m worried about paying up front for these services if they will all be replaced by the NBN shortly. I am also unsure whether I can get wired for Foxtel without taking out a 1 or 2 year contract with them.

I’m not 100% sure but was under the impression that Telstra had to install a fibre cable to every new property & not copper services.

See if you can get telecommunications conduits installed with pull wire or string so that when you get the service added later it will be very easy to install the fibre cable / foxtel / telephone through the conduits.
