Hi.I have recently purchased my first unit and i am having a bit of trouble. The settlement went through ok though when i went to pick up my keys from the agent he only had the keys for the building and my unit.So i am missing the key for the garage and mail box.I told him on the day and he told me to come back at the end of the week,so i did and still no key.I have rang him about 3 times since and he just says he will case it up for me though i get the impression he isn't doing anything. Is there something i can do to make him hurry up?It has been two weeks since settlement and im sick of parking on the street. How long can it take to get a key?

Hi Sprunk. Forget about the agent, he's moved on.  Get a locksmith. It's a good idea to have all the locks changed anyway upon moving into any new place. I always have them changed between tenants.

If the Garage has remote access etc try the Body Corporate / Owners Corporation for the access key / remote.
In need the Owners Corporation can chase the previous owner for the return of the access key but they should be able to provide you with a new one.
For 'Common Items' like this they should have a control process in place (they probably don't) to ensure these access keys are returned otherwise it can create problems with previous owners/ tenants gaining unauthorised access to the garage etc

send him an email saying you want the keys within 48 hours etc etc and tag your solicitor in on it.

If it is a radio remote find out who makes the remote and the toggle switch settings from body corporate or previous owner
and buy another remote and change the toggle switch settings on the door and on the remote to match each other and stop old owner getting into garage.
The locksmith may sell the radio remote also !

I called the strata managers today and they told me i would have to pay $100 to get a new key, which i though was pretty steep for something which should have been included in the first place.Isn't this kind of stuff covered with your strata fees?I will call the locksmith today to see if they can get me one cheaper.

IS there a more senior staff member who you can speak to regarding the lack of professionalism and customer 'service' that you are recieving? They may not care, however, if they value their reputation they may make efforts to ensure that this employee carries out their role until it is completed, not just until settlement.
