Welcome recommendations on cheap & reliable handymen for basic property maintenance activities in above-mentioned locations.

Bit over paying silly money to have bolts tightened, tiles refixed etc

Have you tried hire a hubby http://www.hireahubby.com.au I have found them to be reasonable on their quotes.
Always get a least three quotes on the work required if you can arrange quotes.
    Have you tried

I used them before the company franchised out to the vast network it is today.

Have you tried talking to the neighbors or the tenants?

Your tenants might be happy to fix things if you pay for the materials and give them a discount on their rent for the week.

Alternatively the neighbours might be handy-men (but not by trade) and might be happy to help for a small fee.

Jobs over a $1000 will require a Licensed Tradesman In Qld so your tenant or the neighbour may not be the best placed to assist especially if you want to avoid the weight of the QBSA.

Cheap often means nasty, dodgy and potential major problems.

If you use neighbours, tenants etc to do things nad something stuffs up or an accident you are fully liable as using unlicensed / unqualified people and they also wouldnt be correctly covered by your public liability if they hurt themselfs.

Sometimes to save 100- 200 is not worth the potential risks

    Hi Togaf

I've used this website to receive quotes from different trades – http://www.homeimprovementpages.com.au/home/index1

It's quite handy – you provide a description of the job and the replies usually come back quite quickly.

    Cheers

    Jamie

Agreed, there's a few sites I would trust as both builder AND client.

    servicecentral

    serviceseeking

    homeimprovementpages

They are all dead easy to use (very little work to get multiple quotes).

Of course, it often pays to just google search (old school;) as I've found some of the best tradies when I need a sub-contractor with a google search and a quick website view.
