We lived in Australia for 2 years and then moved away and came back. Had no problem renting in the house we currently live but I have a feeling my husband and I might be listed on a tenancy database because when we moved out of our last house in Perth we broke our lease two months prior to expiry. The agent said she would negotiate with the landlords to reduce the rent to half to meet us half way as they did not want to put other tenants in because the owners wanted to move back in when lease expired. In the end our deposit was equal to the amount she was going to negotiate for. There was no damage to the property in any way and we had a great relationship with the agent. I did not have a forwarding address at the time we left Australia so I provided my email address. She never notified me if the owners accepted the proposal or if there were any issues. It is my own fault as I should have contacted, but I did not and now have to live with the consequences if she did list us on a tenancy database. I am going to look at a house tomorrow and will have to submit an application on Monday as it is an open home in a very popular area of Brisbane and won't be on the market for long. I don't want to put the agent off by asking which database they use. How do I find out as they don't mention anything on their website. Also, is there a quicker alternative to getting details from TICA as the phone option is not worth while. I have phoned and been put on hold forever just to be told to call back and charged at a per minute rate for the call. It's absurd! I can't wait 28 days for the free option.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.I think you may be worrying needlessly. It costs $$ to put tenants on TICA and I think your agent would have informed you by email if there had been problems. Once you get to know some PM's in your search for a rental they can easily just look it up for you if you are still concerned. Good luck today.
