Can anyone recommend a good Landlords Insurance policy. Had a bad tennant and we were with GIO and they have been really slow and painful – the claim is still being processed.
I am with CGU and I have claimed through them and it was ok but now they have an excess of $500 to pay on a claim.
not sure if they cover flood damage.Thanks duckster but I really object to paying big excesses – especially if you have to pay several for the one tenant. I have been looking on the net but none seem to be great.
I go through NAB, and I think the insurer is Allianz. Had one claim, which was very quickly and helpfully attended to. The person at Allianz that I spoke to said that they could see that i hadn't had a claim for x years, so they would just push this one through quickly, without the normal quote rigamorole, as they valued our custom. It was only a small claim, meaning that they are significantly ahead, but they have been good to deal with. Very happy.

I changed from Allianz because I felt they had really poor after sales care. I tried to lodge a claim and kept getting bounced around departments until i gave up. Another time i wanted to clarify what coverage I had with them and they couldnt seem to answer me, i felt like i was talking to someone who had no idea, got transferred and the same with the next operator. That was a few years ago and maybe they have gotten better?
Unfortunately or fortunately i havent lodged a claim through terri scheer so I cant speak with experience on that. All i can say is that ive had no problems, rates seemed good as they specialise in landlords insurance, came highly recommended.

I still reckon AAMI are pretty good, although I have got a policy with NRMA too.
Have found both helpful on the phone, although no claims made.
Hi Everyone, We are about to purchase our first investment property. Can anyone give me an indication of how much we should expect Landlord's insurance to be? Is it based on the value of the property or the rental return, or some other calculation that is a mystery to everyone but the insurers? Thanks
hi, i have four policies with GIO. i recently made claim after my tenant set fire to my kitchen and caused smoke damage to the whole house. i was on holidays when i received the call drom my PM. i called GIO they assessed the property within a week and approved the repairs, actually going with the more expensive quote to ensure that the ceiling was not just painted but replaced. From start to finish it took less than three weeks for quotes, assessment, approval for repairs and repairs completed and paid for. i was very happy with the service that i received.

For our house/land investment properties we use Allianz and found them to be excellent. Have had to make 2 claims in the past 18months and couldn't be happier with how they were handled. Very professional organisation.
For our apartment investments we use TerriScher. Haven't had to make any claims yet, but our PM from experience says they are also good.
As with any insurance – read the fine print carefully.
