Does anyone know of or used the Discount Property Group (David Dorian/Follow me Chat Club)?

Hi, I have bought 2 properties through the Discount Property Group and am now on to my third.  I have found that Dave and his team are always there to help you.  They are an amazing bunch of people who have helped make my property investing quite an adventure.  The Follow Me Chat Club was the beginning of my investing adventure and came along at a time when I really needed something in my life.  I can only praise and say thank you for setting the path for my financial freedom.

I always find it amazing that after such a question we always get a response saying how wonderful such an organisation is from a first time poster and then never hear from them again.

I never tire of these "Joined today, everything about X Group is fantastic" posts.

But in all seriousness, it's great to hear they are an 'amazing group of people' and they are 'always there to help you'. Did this post come straight from the advertising brochure??

Actually, no, it didn't come from a brochure, but maybe they could hire me to write one for them.(ha!ha!)
Hi Richard, I too am in finance and have been for the past 13 years so do understand where you are coming from.  However, I am not just a fly by night person who sings the praises of others lightly.  As you would be aware, there is an awful lot of money involved in purchasing property, and as such, I would never sing the praises of an organisation if they did not perform.  I joined the Follow Me Chat Club in January 2008 thinking that I might possibly be able to buy one property.  In just 8 months I had bought two and am now on the verge of settlement for the third.  On my own I would not have achieved this.  Thank you FMCC and DPG and Dave Dorian.  You rock!!!!

Any other opinions? How do they differ from any of the other crowds? What do they do differently?

They don't charge an arm and a leg and one of your children, to go along to their meetings.  They hold your hand every step of the way.  So very important.  You don't feel like you are being ripped off.  They make investing fun and exciting for all age groups.  No one is to old.

    How much do they charge?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you take the time to research property investing over a few months, read books, join forums like this and read magazines like API … Then why would you need to pay others to make decisions for you and hold your hand.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but for me part of the enjoyment of property investing is the research and taking responsibility for my actions, …. after all it is me that is investing a few hundred thousand each time I purchase.

Maybe I'm just out of touch with the new property investors ways.

To answer your question. I do this for a living. Just yesterday I saved a prominent Doctor about $30,000 by giving him free advice about a property  purchase he was about to sign for. He does all his own research and pays a great deal of money for it – all the best too – everything from people such as Matsuik, Ryder, the Banks,IBIS etc. He is highly intelligent etc. The moral of the story is that you can't know everything. Why are people reluctant to use professionals when dealing in large investments?
It always amazes me that a person wanting to sell his $8m home won't pay a valuer $300 but will rely on an estate agent for selling price advice. You have got to be kidding! Do your own research, learn and know as much as you can – then still employ a professional – because now you know the questions to ask and are better informed to assess the advice. It all helps in making the best possible decisions. And what is a few thousand dollars over the life of a sound property folio? You will save more by getting the professional advice.
Avoid 'clubs' and seminars – they are all traps for the unwary.
Ask yourself why would a person who claims to own 100, 200, 300 properties be wasting their time running seminars? Why are they not out there just quietly buying up all those properties they are trying so hard to sell to their club/seminar members?
I am an CA specialising in taxation, trusts and due diligence for large commercial purchases and I despair about the total rubbish advice that people use to make property buying decisions.
There are sound professionals out there. Use them and pay them their fees – they are worth every penny to you.

I agree with Josh.  Some people just hate negotiating.  To have an expert do it for you is very wise.  I was too time poor to do all of the work myself, so hiring the right people saved me not only money, but precious time too.
As for how much do they charge, why not contact their office to find out?

Well, you said they "don't charge an arm and a leg", so I was hoping you could share with the community how much they did in fact charge you.

Either you know how much they charge and won't tell the forum, or you don't know, and your previous post was untrue. Which one is it?

What amazes me is that when people write first "glowing posts" on the forum and get questioned by regular posters, if the first poster comes up with a reasonable response, as Lavendar Lily has done, some regular forum members just accept the response at face value.

Of course Dan42 is right to continue to question LL.  I don't believe a word she says in her capacity as a client of this DPG.  This bollocks about "why not contact their office to find out?" screams of marketing.  My questions is, how is it that she just coincidentally joined the forum at the same time there was a post about DPG.  This is not a person to be asking questions about DPG and expecting honest, objective answers.  This person is related to the company.

Lavendar Lily.  This is not an original marketing method.  Hundreds and hundreds of people have done this before and most of the regular forum members and see straight through it.  If you want to see where this sort of marketing ends up, I suggest that you do a search on "Premium Finance" on this forum.

I wasn't prepared to disclose the prices before contacting the office as I did not want to be in breach of their policy.
The dollar amounts range from $100 to $6,995 depending on the level that you want to go with your investing.  I joined the forum as a friend of mine belongs to it and told me about the question regarding the FMCC etc.  As I was so happy with what they have done for me I joined the forum so that I could respond.  I'm beginning to wish I hadn't!!

And you just happened to join on the exact day that someone asks about Discount Property Group?  And you just happen to be on the forum within half an hour of me posting my last post?

Truth is, whether or not you are linked to DPG, no-one is going to give your opinion on DPG any credit.  Most of the forum regulars are alert to "glowing first posts", as they are affectionately known and will slam them as soon as they appear.  You are doing the company more harm than good.

Thanks for your very glowing response Oh Ye Of Little Faith.
No matter what you think of me, you cannot take away the fact that the DPG are a wonderful group of people who spend most of their precious time looking after people like me.  I'll close now.  Good luck with your forum.  I won't be back, so don't bother to answer. I'd rather spend my time with optimistic, bright enlightened people than waste my time here.  Have fun!!  I know I am going to.  In this life you have choices.  No one made me come on to this website and no one is making me go.  I just think that you are a lot of time wasters who sit around berating others, whilst I would rather be out using my financial background to help others.  Au revoir.

Spot on Mystery always more rewarding when you reach a stage where your confident enough to find an investment property using your own research. Doesn't hurt to have a good relationship with real estate agents but bugger paying for anyone to do what you can do.
