There has been a lot of talk recently about rental increases across Australia with both landlords and tenants confused about the rules relating to increases.

Generally speaking you can only increase rent during the term of a tenancy agreement if the agreement has a clause defining the terms of the increase.

The following link summarises the various state and territory laws in Australia regarding Residential Tenancy Acts.

It shows how often you can increase the rent, amount of bond you can ask, how much advance rent, notice to vacate periods and links to the state bodies handling disputes.

It is absurd that each state has different rules but that is not news to anyone.
