If anyone is thinking of buying a Mistral Split Air Conditioner you may want to consider what has happened with one of mine.
It broke down in early December and so far it is still broken. Mistral dont seem to keep many parts and to add insult to injury the contractor they have tasked to fix it wont work for them as they have been very slow to pay him for past jobs! So far they have been unsuccessful in finding another contractor to do the job as their poor reputation is well known.
So, I am left with an aircon that is under warranty but cant be fixed. By the time I go through all the motions available to me summer will be over.
Just want to pass this on as Bunnings have many of these units for sale. But, you can bet if it breaks down it may take a LONG time to get anything done if ever.
Oh, and one other thing. To ring “customer service” they only have a standard number and they c an keep you waiting in the queue for some time. If you have to call STD it can add up.
Thanks for the heads up. We’ve been shopping around for air con systems and will certainly take this into consideration.
BTW, if anyone else is looking at air con systems I’ve noticed that Grays Auctions often has a couple lots of them available in their online auctions (www.graysonline.com.au). I’m not endorsing them, just putting it out here.
Cheers,

Just a bit of info in regards to your split system. I know that if you buy any item new and it breaks down within a certain timespan, you are well within your rights to ask for a complete new one. Give consumer affairs a call because this is not right at all.
Secondly, I would be breathing down Bunnnings neck about it. It is in their interset to do something about it because it is their name being tarnished. Don’t be afraid to kick up a fuss. I work in the industry and believe me who screams loudest gets attended to first.
If worst comes to worst, we have a local discount retailer in SA called Cunninghams warehouse (bric a brac etc). They sell split systems called Fujita (not to be confused with Fujitsu). They are ridiculously cheap but actually have a good quality compressor in them and good components. They are so cheap that if they fail next year buy another one. I don’t know if Cunninghams operate in any other state? Hope this helps. Get angry, it works!
Had the same woes with TCL split system in a rental property.
Bought off Retravision, but they just refer you to the TCL helpline.
Service agent is based in Melbourne, air cond is in WA, and same thing….they refer it to a local service agent who has not called yet.5 yr warranty, but it might expire before they come out !

I work in the building supply industrie and also sell mistral splits. All have been fine except for one which i sold. The client also could not get any satisfaction from mistral. I have printed out a copy of your coments and will be showing my management that its all good and wll buying something cheap but do we want the reputation of sselling crap.
If i get any answers on the dodgy split i will let you know. Thanks everyone for your comments.
An update.
Still not fixed and I doubt it ever will be. I have been to Fair trading but they take their time.
I have wasted so much energy on this that soon I will give up and buy another one. It wont be a Mistral thats for sure.
Give Email (the brand, not the method of communication) a wide berth too. Fujitsu and Mitsubishi seem to have a good rep. All the best [strum]
