I’ve attended a Martin Ayles seminar, went back and researched Parramatta Council’s DCP and bought a property, which I want to subdivide and build two houses on. Now I need to decide whether to:
    a) use a building company (e.g. Masterton Homes) to manage the process for me; or
    b) to get somebody to draw the plans for me and do the process (incl getting DA approval and a construction certificate) myself.

I feel quite confident doing it myself and it will probably increase my learning curve.

It seems that the building companies can build cheaper ($650 /m2) than getting my own builder ($1000/m2). I’m sure I’m not comparing apples with apples, but what is the general experience?

Has anybody had some good or bad experiences with Masterton? I also quite liked a company called Ferntree, but has anybody ever heard of them?
