I was watching a report on channel 7’s Today Tonight show Monday night. From watching the show it appears easy to steal any ones property in Australia and get away with it. The problem affects vacant property. The example given on the show was a vacant house, with the owners overseas at the time. The property was listed for sale with a Real Estate agent and sold quietly (no sign out the front of the house). The first the owners new about the sale was when they arrived back home to find new owners living in their house!

The real owners have no legal recourse with the new owners under the law. The only option is to pursue the people who approached the Real Estate agent to sell the property.

There is currently no legal requirement for Real Estate agents to sight id from someone wanting to sell a property. Is there a way to protect your property while it is vacant? Or are all vacant properties at RISK until this legal loop hole is closed?

    Hi.

Anyone else remember when ‘Current Affairs’ wasn’t a euphemism for ‘Tabloid S#!t’?

    Still, that’s a dodgy law.

Oh, and if you want a Today Tonight giggle check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewhleenoxr0

    Cheers,
