Earlier this year after being inspired by several books I decided to write a Mission Statement which I framed and hung on the wall. For the first few days I looked at it each day thinking perhaps it was a bit of a “wank”. Recently however exhausted from our latest reno and receiving bad news on costs blowouts on the subdivision I became extremely depressed. This went on for days.
My husband came home and finding me in tears again led me to the office and made me read the following words aloud:Mission Statement
“….To achieve a balance of work, health and family lifestyle without financial constraints by 31st December, 2010. To build an asset base that will give us freedom to go on to buy, sell, renovate and develop property when the deals appear. Dated this 9th day of January, 2006…”
After wipeing away the tears I have managed to regain my determination to achieve our goals. I urge all of you to write your own Mission Statement as a reminder to keep going when the tough times inevitably hit.

“It is better to be inconspicuously wealthy, than to be ostentatiously poor…”I became extremely depressed. This went on for days.
My husband came home finding me in tears againHey ya Amanda,
Chin up matey – you sound as if you are both doing great guns. Nothing comes easily if it’s any good. Just as you plow through the boggy bits, you’ve gotta realise you’ll come out the other end stronger and more powerful…..invigorated and ready to plow into the next mudhole.
Sounds like you didn’t need me to give you a hand with the reno – all came up trumps – that’s great news.
Keep smiling Amanda – it does get easier. [exhappy]
If it was easy Amanda, everyone would be doing it.

[email protected]Hey Amanda,
Well done girl you are going great guns!! [biggrin]
At times it is easy to become discouraged when the ball doesn’t bounce the right way that’s when you need to sit down in the quiet of night glass of red/white in hand (or both depending on the day you have had) and tick off all the things that you have achieved to get you where you are today. Never forget where you have come from it is all character building and does make you stronger.
Love the idea of the mission statement can’t miss it if it’s stuck up on a wall[thumbsup2]
Take care keep striving towards your goal.

Dear Amanda
Thanks for sharing your experience. I had forgot all about mission statements. I remember writing one 5 years ago (family mission statement).
I am now re-doing our mission statement to incorporate the journey we are now on.
Thanks to your tears of frustration (and the willingness to share) I am now re-charged and know what outcomes are “must haves”.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Ros
Thanks guys for all your words of encouragement. We all have good times (see my post “My turn to Brag !”) but its often harder to admit the low points.
Best wishes to everyone driving to achieve their personal mission in life.Amanda
“It is better to be inconspicuously wealthy, than to be ostentatiously poor…”Love your mission statement. Very inspiring. I am going to write one of my own now.

Hi Amanda
Great post!
I guess I have a bit of a mission statement up somewhere in my head, however you have inspired me to put pen to paper (actually texta to the huge whiteboard we have purchased) make these a ‘must not a maybe’
thank you & keep on kicking goalsTroy

You can have more than you’ve got because you can become more than you are
You know Amanda, I see you guys as having a great team.
When you were down your husband / partner / team member reached down and pulled you up out of a hole.
Anyone can be negative and make matters worse. It takes someone special to cut through the static, remain focused on the end goal, supporting the team to keep the moral high during tough times.
Anyone can perform when things are easy. The real professionals, the heros, when they get knocked down, they get back up, dust themselves off, and make things work.
Go give your husband a big hug because you never know when you are going to need that support again.Glenn & Julie
Thanks Glen and Julie,
Maybe I’ll give him a “Special” hug tonight !![ohno]Amanda
“It is better to be inconspicuously wealthy, than to be ostentatiously poor…”Hi,
I don’t have a mission statement, but I do write goals.
I write about 10 of them each year, I keep rewriting the main one , reviving them. I slit them on few small steps…. Anyway we al heart how to do it….First 12 month I though it’s really stupid – but I though I can give it a try and then will forget about forever. The strange thing – when I reviewed all goals some 6 month later I wouldn’t believe, but I achieved about a half of them and was very close to got others! [party] I haven’t even noticed it until I read my goals from paper! I’m going to go my goal setting to the rest of my life [biggrin]
There’s something magical happened when you white it on paper. Good luck for you
Cheers,
