    Hi one and all,

In a current reno project, the house has a massive lounge dining area, fed by a large kitchen over a breakfast bar. This is enough living/eating space. My conundrum, is I have what they are calling a ‘Dining Room’ (it clearly is at best an auxillery dining room), hangin off the other side of the kitchen to the breakfast bar. This auxillery/weird room then also opens yo the outside on the side of the house.

I wondering what I can do with this room to add value, as at present, the best I can think of is a boots and brollies room. Suggestions for other options for this room would be very much appreciated, as I’m sure it can be a bonus rather than what it is right now, a handicap.

    Thoughts?

I should also mention it has a window, is accesses by a sliding door from the kitchen and is about 4 by 2.5 metres in size.

    Thanks

This would be a chillout room with the breezes from outside coming in. As it has sliding doors to the kitchen/eating area it was probably designed as a formal dining room. We use our formal dining room as my office with water views, but it didnt have any doors. We installed bi-fold doors to the main dining room and another set off the loungeroom entrance to the hall. The lounge /office has no dividing wall so its open to the lounge on one side.

It is difficult to work with the kids at home and we are planning to go up as this has become too impractical over time.

What from you description I believe is that your “weird room” is able to be closed in. Maybe a guest bedroom/TV room or a chillout area with steroe is what you may design it as. Alternatively a baby’s room close to mum in the kitchen. Just use the old grey matter, im sure if you tried you will find the best solution without much pain.

    Good Luck

My first thought was the office/study concept although that is mentioned as was the medie room thought I had as well. What about a sewing room? or a hobby room? Painting room etc; and lastly have you considered the idea of having a “Toy Room”? It could be used by the kids for toys, watching Vids without disturbing the adults etc. Not a Rumpus Room as it would be too small. Otherwise if it only has a dicding wall seperating it from the lounge dining tear it out and chase the full open plan look. It really is hard to suggest anything without seeing the house.

    What is the local demographic?

Maybe a wine celler if the local area is of that demographic.
A large pantry, Storage ect. Could you split it for a multi purpose room?
