Thanks Jacque, what a brilliant reply !! Exactly what I’m looking for.

Don’t suppose you know what the best newspapers are for classified property ads ?

    Thanks a lot,
    Stephen.

    Thanks for the reply.

I did actually have a look in there, but there didn’t seem to be that many real estate ads. Good if you’re buying a car though !!

Well I’m only speaking from a NSW point of view here, but my favourite spots to look for private sales include local papers, Saturday’s SMH and Trading Post. The best practice, however, still involves actually driving in the area you’re looking in (I include this as part of my search for all clients) to spot the signs. Almost all private sellers, in my experience, advertise with a sign as a minimum. Also check out http://www.domain.com.au as private sellers are allowed to advertise there- as opposed to the agent only site at http://www.realestate.com.au.
Happy hunting! And where are you looking, incidentally?

    Cheers,
    Jacque

Thanks very much Jacque for the advice.

We’re looking to buy anywhere in and around Sydney, with a view to renovating and selling.

I found that realestate.com.au is the best site to have a look at areas that you dont live in. They will also give you links to other agents in the area that you wish to invest in. It will give you a better idea of what the value of property is in that particular area before you start neg with private vendors.
You can also access buyers agents if thats the path you wish to go down. Once you have a general idea of what property values are in that area you would be better off driving around that neighbourhood to find the “for sale by owner” signs on their front yards.
Good luck. I bought all four of my properties online.

Ive just started a website for Sydney and surrounding suburbs whcih we hope to build a higher density of For Sale By owner listing  or FSBO .
    http://www.propertysalesdirect.com.au

other  websites  seem to be spread thin across australia. Listings are free for now
