New to property.
Can someone tell me what are the negs and positives of using a solicitor or a conveyancer for a simple property transaction?? I’ve been quoted $6500 for fees plus searches etc for a solitictor on a $360,000 property deal! Is this normal, good, bad????Is that $6500 or $650?!? Either one sounds absurd to me. My last IP cost $420,000 (not that the property value should have any bearing on conveyancing cost) and I paid my conveyancer about $300 from memory. I’ve never used a solicitor for buying or selling property. Never had a problem. My agent has put together my section 32s and my conveyancer has done the rest.
Sometimes problems occur with settlements, and in this sort of situation, it may be better if you have a solicitor on board. However, some conveyancers are more knowledgeable about property transactions than solicitors.
