All Topics / Help Needed! / Concrete of Clay Tiles
Hi Guys,
Just finalising the details of a H&L package. We are going for a tiled roof, though the tiles that come with the house are ‘concrete’ tiles. I’ve heard the concrete tiles arn’t very good
– and clay tiles are better? Can anyone shed some light on this?
cheers

This isn’t the answer you wish to hear, but I am only half joking.
I reckon COLOURBOND steel would be the best.
This has been confirmed in my mind since seeing the wrecked roofs on the news due to recent hail storms. They all seemed to be tiled ones.Concrete or Clay – sorry do not know.

http://www.standrewsplace.com.auKNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Clay tiles are harder, stronger, heavier and more expensive IMO
Clay tiles look better are more durable etc, but as they are heavier will require a stronger roof structure…they also provide better cooling in warm climates (hot Perth days).
Concrete is lighter, cheaper and easier to install.
Remember light colours reflect heat dark colours absorb heat..
I’d say check out Borals, Moniers etc sites for more info or even archicentre Wayne..as thats about the limit of my knowledge above..

I’m going to ring the builder today and find out how much extra the clay tiles are, I think I’ll also get a quote on colourbond too!
