When converting extra space into an additional bedroom in a block of units, do you need to get council or body corporate permission?
Thanks
JJ & JoIf you’re making structural changes i.e. knocking out walls, relocating plumbing, you need to let the body corp know.
But if you’re just hanging a door and calling a ‘sunroom’ or a ‘dining room’ a bedroom, no need to tell anyone.
As a rule of thumb in units, try and be discreet about what you do and certainly keep the noise to business hours – there is always somebody in a block who will have nothing better to do than pester you.

http://www.depreciator.com.auHi,
I had a creative tennant in my Maribyrong townhouse who attempted to convert the tandem garage into a bedroom.
Checked with local council who advide that it’s a no no due to building regs, insurance etc.

Thanks for the replies. It seems caution and research is the best approach.
Cheers
