Hi all,
I’m after some feed back regarding antivirus software, The IT guy installed Vet on all our computers today and I am now having problems with my broad band internet (wireless through a Dlink router) and I am not sure if Vet is compatible or stable with wireless connections,
Has anyone else encountered problems with VET, all responses much appreciated, thanks.Regards

Hi Steven
I’m on broadband, and brought a new computer last month from a friend in the business who kindly included several anti-virus programs for me.
I set it all up and immediately had problems with sending emails (although I could receive them). I couldn’t work out what the heck was going on.
I rang my trusty service provider for assistance and was told that the (external) modem I use had its own firewall and that one of the installed ant-virus programs (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005) was interferring with this.
I thought I was being taken for a ride, but sure enough, once I’d disabled the firewall features of the installed program, I had no further problems.
I doubt that I’d ever have figured that one out myself. So while this doesn’t directly answer your query it may still be useful.
cheers
AbbyThanks for your help Abby,
We have changed to a Belkim router and all seems to be working fine for the moment, touch wood.
I suspect the D-link router may have been conflicting with our system and VET, Cheers.Regards

Hi Steven,
I don’t use VET, nor do I have wireless broadband, but I would suggest you have a read of this:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1821787,00.asp
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1819425,00.asp
This probably won’t solve your problem, but just make sure you have all of the ‘latest’ security patches installed.
It may be a problem with the settings in your firewall configuration, or maybe the router? I would also check the VET Antivirus settings. If you can’t resolve it, you can call the ‘IT Guy’ and get him to fix it. Was it working after he installed VET?
Good luck.
Regards,
OziThanks for the info Ozi,
The IT chap reinstalled Vet and a new router and it seems to be working ok at the moment. We were previously using Zone alarm without any problems, however we did find parts of an old pesky version of Norton’s on the system that I thought had been completely removed a couple of years ago, very strange.
Thanks for the links; I’m hoping the Vet updates and patches will put a stop to any potential hacker activity, cheers.
Regards
Steven
