We have 2 cars…
a 98 Hyundai Sonata that I negotiated for $2500 below market value due to a damaged rear door … as luck would have it … I found a door exactly the same and fitted complete with a cut and polish for a greand total of 80 bucks ontop of hte price I paid…. I could still sell it today and make a grand or so more than I paid ….
number 2 is another bargain … a 97 Kia Mentor..
Both cars were out of the Trading post and the only things I have had to do to them is hte CV joints … os had to put on my old mechanics hat and did the job on both cars for less than 50% of the prices i have been quoted!
We have been thinking about getting rid of one to save over $4,000 per year … but have not been able to find a solution for kid pick up and wifes job rquirements … so stuck with them both at the moment,
Cheers,

Hi all
Up until this year we have always had 3 cars & 1 motorbike…what a waste of money Eh?
Earlier this year we had a 2000 Jeep Wrangler, 1999 V6 Hyundai Sonata, 2006 Holden Combo Van & 19? Motorbike (Honda I think – it has been modified & goes fast I believe). My husband won’t part with it…
We came to our senses & gave away the Sonata to our mother. We should have given her the jeep as the sonata is a lot better on the juice. Unfortunatley we still have the rest.
The Jeep is for sale if anyone knows anyone who wants one??? This has been a battle with my husband. He likes to look the part, however I have been able to convince him otherwise and the jeep is now happily looking for a new home. The Combo Van is work related & will be offloaded this year and we will trade the jeep for a ute (useful for renovations & the like).
My husband was trying to make me buy a Crewman or V6 Ute. I said no!!!! I just want a small efficient tidy second hand ute. He is devastated but knows that it is for the best. I will let him keep his bike however for the time being anyway.
A little bit of negotiation is better than nothing, but we really only need a ute because there is only the 2 of us & husband works away 4 weeks & is home for 1 week. I am into the investing so it makes sense to be smarter with your money.
The goal is to only have one little car by the end of the year. (& bike for his pleasure)…

Hi,
New to this forum but thought i’d jump in & reply.
We rely on 2 cars as we are in regional Qld.
2004 Toyota Prado
2000 Dawoo Lanos
Proud to say we own them outright!
I own a 2002 VY Holden Calais. Gets me places and will not sell her for any amount of money.
If i had alot of money i wouldnt spend it on a posh/luxury car personally. People dont need to act rich and certainly purchasing a 1/3 Million dollar car isnt my cup of tea anyway. Would like to use my money wisely and invest to achieve my goals.
I suppose it depends on what you are looking to achieve& for what purpose you use your vehicle.
If you have reached a goal that you have strived for, put in a LOT of hard work, got your next project in motion & have funds left over then it’s ok to spoil yourself sometimes!
Definately not about looking rich…
Umm….a V8 Ghia would you believe. BA Fairmont Ghia 5.4ltr V8 which we own outright, and a VL1500LC Suzuki ‘Cruiser’. But boy would we have some I P’s if we (I) had not squirted so much on vehicles over the last 10 years or so. Still we own these now, and that is that……If i could sell the car for good money I would probably buy a cheapy and fund a property with the change at the moment the way prices are… but I’d miss the satnav and sunroof! [suave3]Still, there you go . Veeery Interesting post eh?[withstupid]
An early 80s road bike. It has only one speed and has only a front brake. It is very fast, efficient, low maintence and helps keep me fit. It cost about $250 dollars to build – most of the cost was in the tyres.
Faster than a car for most trips in metro Melbourne, and spanks most other bikes on the road.
Nice bike but a little expensive for my taste. What speed have you had it up too? Why the trip to the Lamborghini factory?
Top speed so far, carrying a pillion, on the east coast of tassie was 180 km/h
re lamborghini, I’ve loved them since I was a kid, but I wont buy one until I can pay cash for one, and not have the insurance etc slow down the investing. Since I havent actually started investing yet, you could call the lamborghini factory a motivation tool!
I’m currently doing the push bike thing to try and get fit.. riding 50 minutes to work on a Trek 4900 mountain bike.
Is it working? Your times getting better?

I drive Toyota Prado Grande. Bought new in 2004 as a company car. I am getting car allowance, so it works better than just having company provided vehicle.
We have a Subaru Outlook 2003 and a Mitsubishi Magna 1999. Nothing too posh.
Unless you are rolling in it I believe that one needs to use as much of their extra cash for more important things such as keeping a rainy day account (for emergencies), taking the family on holidays and of course purchasing another IP.
Currently a beautiful $1800 vr commodore.
I make it a rule not to waste any more money on a car than a few thousand tops.(and thats the high end of the scale!)
We’ve got 70 yrs on planet earth,Lets make the most of every day!
