I drive a Ferrari F430 on the weekend and use the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder for work. Hope to trade up soon.
Hi All,
I'm driving an XR6 falcon…. Yellow Even.
Wife has the festiva with a burned valve……..My car is a 1998 Holden Combo (a Barina with the van at the back, aka The Tardis) – excellent car for renovating. My missus's car (our "real" car) is a 2003 BA Falcon we bought last year from the govy auctions for $11,000. I swore I'd never buy a falcon again, but somehow, this is now the third piece of crap in my garage (j/k, its OK).
I just upgraded my pushbike… I added some brakes… still not using them
im really happy to see lots of other ppl driving crappy cars also….its just been a case of trading down over and over for me over the last few years. ive owned a wrx, a civic with wheels worth 3600??? stupid yes…a black veilside supra….downgraded from the supra to a honda accord just before i bought my first house….then downgraded from accord to a 1978 toyota corolla coupe that cost $1300 in order to free up some cash to get my first i.p.
i figure i can't downgrade any further now unless i get a moped…..and my car is now actually a very slowly appreciating asset….it gets quite a few comments from onlookers i must say….but yes being newly single i cant actually bring myself to take a female on a date in the corolla haha.
some of the comments have been very interesting…i have the constant battle in my head of whether i should go and buy a better car or just keep plugging away in the old battler corolla….i guess everyone needs to just find the balance that makes them happy. i think i may upgrade within the next year or so to a car that at least has air con!Nah, old corollas are crap…
yeah, i think you gotta upgrade…the old corolla does nothing for the ego.
I drive a Ford Focus 2003, and it is great, downgraded or upgraded I dont know from a 1995 Ford Futura to save money
on the petrol to work on debt of PPOR.The Focus is great but too small now with 2 growing boys. Want Ford Territory for cheap holidays and room for all the sports gear and friends that come along with going to football, basketball, soccer etc etc
Will only buy Territory if we can convert it to gas and buy it at the Auctions, but am struggling with the thought of paying $30k for a car, I know it's silly but I WANT IT!!! LOL!!!!
Oh well, I can just keep wanting!!!!
jenwren wrote:Well I am a self confessed petrol head so I love this thread. I drive an 99 AU falcon ex taxi. I have fitted an aftermarket turbo kit, and low k engine and trans to this vehicle (did it all myself because I am too tight to pay) so I have XR8 performance for the cost of running a taxi. I get up to 500k's for about $30. The car is beaten up, I do 150 k's each day to go to work so I think its the perfect vehicle fo me. All up it owes me about $8k. I used to have a Ford Fairmont Ghia V8 with leather, wood all the flash stuff, but I worried about it too much, Needless to say I dont cry if I dent the taxi! I still have my first engine – a 351C in my second car, an 68 XT falcon with a 4sp top loader. She used to really go! The clock only went to 120mph it used to go right around to the stopper. I have had heaps of bikes and cars probably 30 bikes and 10 cars. RE: the Guzzi top speed I love the jap bikes when I was a poor uni student I had a 1984 VF 1000 that I could get up to a clock speed of 260kph. Most recently I had a 1995 CB1000 "Big One" that I sold because it hadnt been out of the shed in 7 months. I once rode that from Bourke to North Richmond in 6 hours. Not bad on a naked bike! I commissioned the building of a car for my partner, I took an RN85 Dual cab and had a 1UZFE Quad Cam V8 out of a jap soarer fitted to it. All the fruit like power steer and A/C, but that was when we had two kids, now with three I am looking to get something a little more boring. Building this was probably a silly move it cost me about $17k. – an ex taxi is looking good. For the tractor lovers I have a 1950's Fordson Major Kero/Petrol she has one way hydraulics a 3pl and PTO – way ahead of her time! I have various other contraptions around the place, but nothing anyone here would be interested in. I am happy to say that I dont carry on like a fool on the road anymore. I love the BMW 7 series, or the bentley turbo's I think I will get one of those one day (and put it on gas out of principle!)I now have a late 2005 XR6 Turbo – cheap and cheerfull ex chaser.
Had it for 6 months on lease done 20,000k. Converted it to injected LPG – just awsome. Cheap, fast and looks good.
We just picked up our new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Diesel. The wife drives a Magna Sports……..might as well have our cake and eat it too…..

Hey Devo – don't worry about wasting money – just imagine how the poor cow that would be silly enough to spend 100 large on a VL Commodore will feel a couple of years later on…..heh heh (nothing personal – just telling it like it is—if you can get anywhere near that take it and run!)
I once owned a brand new hyundai excel – "drive away no more to pay" for $13,990.
I did 196,000km's in it and had it serviced twice in 5 years. Total abuse.
Bought 4 new tyres and a new battery.
It never missed a beat and I sold it for 5 grand.
Now THAT'S a car!1997 VT Commodore,….. LPG Converted Offcoarse.
2002 Holden SS Ute, I know it's a waste of money and it costs a lot to run… but it's worth it.
I guess it's time for an update as it has been a while since the last one.

As you rightly quote in your sign off "No point having a cake if you can't eat it." – Hence, I drive a BMW 330ci convertible and am loving it. My wife drives a Pajero and our teenage kids share a Hyundai ExcelMe – Honda Civic 2 door Hatch 1997. My Husband – Subaru Libery Wagon 2006.

Funny thing is it will probably be worth $250,000 in years to come, The next muscle car boom will probably see them reach $500,000. I cant hold on for that long. Want to pay my PPOR of and buy more property.
