Does anyone know exactly where the terrible mudslides were in the North Island today… The Channel 9 News is good for saying “North Island”, without actually mentioning a town.
NZ regurarly cops it by Mother Nature.
My sincere best wishes to all our NZ forumites.

Matata, a little township of about 300, 24kms north along the coast from Whakatane was very severely hit by mudslides and floodwater today.
I think just about the whole town has been evacuated.
Flooding also in Edgecumbe which was hit last year as well.
Tauranga had a couple of days of very heavy rain. Several houses built too close to cliffs have fallen over. Quite a bit of flooding as well.
Probably several 10s of millions of damage throughout the area. Several approches to bridges have been washed out.

Thanks Wayne,
WOW!!! When it rains in NZ it really rains!!
My sympathy to all and I hope that there are no major losses of livestock.

DelHi Muppet,
Thanks for the info. I hope you are nice and dry.
It doesn’t seem fair. I’m sure there will be lots of homeless people again for a while… Many are probably just getting settled after last years huge downpour.
Take care,
Del
