    Just a quickie guys,

Does anybody have any effective ways of cleaning oil and grease etc. off a plain concrete garage floor?

What are the best methods and products to use.

    Thanks…G7

A friend of mine has concreting business an tells me acid wash is the way to go.
I have never tried acid washing concrete myself. I have tried many other degreasers and other cleaners with varying levels of success. None have been completely successful.

PS Acid wash for plain concrete only (as per your post). NOT stencil or stamp crete.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Cheers

Have you tried liquid magnet made by advil located at 121 cecil street, South Melbourne vic 3205 phone nymber 9693 0500. I bought it at a hardware shop and it seemed to take a lot of oil out of concrete. Acid
could cause concrete to be pitted as lime will dissolve from concrete with an acid.

I havn’t tried it myself, but I heard coca cola works well.

Considering what it does to your teeth, I wouldn’t be surprised.

The biggest problem is that concrete is porous adn the oil will tend to soak down into it. If it is an old oil stain the only thing you can do is cover it up. After washing the top layer of oil off, the deeper soaked in stuff will stay until you remove the concrete.

Is there some sort of “poly filler” type stuff you can use to patch concrete? I guess you could chip away the old stuff and pour on new cement.

Or you could paint the concrete or distribute oil over the whole lot evenly then wash it off leaving a uniformly stained slab?

Probably necessary to define different approaches, physical and chemical.
First, high pressure rotary washers ( look a bit like a lawn mower with
water jets underneath), and there are copious amounts of wand type cleaners.

They do a reasonable job, however one thing to remember is that they
can remove small layers of concrete if held too close. Next is the chemical
route, there are several products on the market, however I think I saw a dry
chemical treatment for grease/oil removal on a program called Bright Ideas
they have a website, do a search. The results they were claiming were quite
spectacular. Lastly, I have contacted the chemical engineers at firms like
Septone before and they have been very helpful from a commercial perspective.

    Good Luck!
