Has anybody had to ask for an extension or exemption of FHOG, eg decided to rent out property for longer than 1st 12 months. Looks like we are headed that way and wondering how others have gotten on. We are prepared to pay money back, not sure if they ask for lump sum or installments. We are in WA.

I have never seen this situation.

The intent of the 12 months rental deferral was to enable people to let an existing lease run it’s course. Normal residential leases are rarely over 12 months.

Let us know how you go with your extension.

If you do pay it back I think you might then be able to claim it again when you do buy your home?

Let us know if you get an answer to that one.
