Need to retire in 10 years and will have about $300k in investments/savings….
All the fin gurus and super tables seem to indicate I need a huge amount of $$$ so I can live off the interest.
I want to draw down the capital too, so I can quit working and enjoy.
If I did this I would have 300k left when I die, to line the coffin with.
Or my 3 kids would get it – better idea- but they would be maybe 50 or 60years old then and already made their own way in life.
Am I just a typical greedy babay boomer or am I thinking right.
I have been helping the children along the way, and will continue to do this.
I will have a house and a few $$$ to leave them when I depart for good.

I reckon you should set yourself so that you can enjoy your money, if that is your goal. The kids can fend for themselves. i’m sure they’ll survive.

    Jason,

I reckon you can do both, enjoy your money and still plan for the kids.

    Hi Giddo,

Are you saying you aim to have $300K when you retire? Or that you can access $300K now to further your retirement plans.

Don’t forget that you can (if you wish) add any spare equity into your calculations when you calculate your leveraging capacity.
