All Topics / General Property / finding Economic Profiles and Population Profiles
Hi everyone, just wondering if their are any good web site or resources apart from the Austalian Bureau Statistics (where you have to pay $10.00 a pop for any decent information) where I could get economic and population profiles?
Just been trying to research some areas using Steves 5 infastucture rules. Some information like population and transport infrastucture are easy to come across but trying to find out percentage of renting population, average incomes and unemployment levels are a little bit more tricky. Should I be contacting the local shires and councils for this information?
sorry it may be a dumb question but I am very much a novice at this stuff.
Any help you could give me would be greathttp://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/Lookup/1A79E7AE231704F8CA256F720082FEB9
ABS 2005 stats (recent) totally FREE very informative.Population trends; any search engine (Sensis, Google, Yahoo etc) type in “XYZ (town name) POPULATION GROWTH” and hey presto, you should get a heap of useful information re the population/growth movements of the area you are researching, and IT’S FREE!!!
http://reports.rpdata.com.au/(not alot of info) but it helps, and again, IS FREE.
http://www.domain.com.au (search under SUBURB SNAPSHOT) this will give you a breakdown of demographics, and cultural composition of area; ALSO FREE.
Council websites of area in question; most council websites have planned infrastructure details on them, and if not sure, give them a call, much of this information can be sent to you if not on their website….AGAIN, ALL FREE.

And that’s just for starters……..[biggrin]

Hi tljw1
Monopoly has given a great answer. I just wanted to add that when i was buying in Australia (when it was cheap) i used to talk to the economic development officers at the councils they were often able to give me some gems of info about possibilities for the area.

hey,
I was actually searching for towns economic profiles today, and found some good information on things like %of people who rent in a suburb. Just type in ‘community profile’ in a search engine.
