All Topics / General Property / any training ideas?
hi.I’ve been offline for awhile.Just now tried to find a post i am SURE i put in last time, but cant find,so i wil re-ask: Can anyone suggest any training,courses,workshops,step-by=step vid’s,etc that can give basic reno skills? In particular carpentry,& basic plumbing?
i believe Tafe runs one,but when i enquired they only sent me a brochure with “owner builder course”,which is really only legal requ’s etc.I am actually looking for hands-on training.
There was someone on here that talked about a reno mentorship program they were invoved in,that sounded great. But a PM to them yielded no response.Any suggestions would be great.& sorry if you have already answered, but i cant find the post![blink]Hi Misty,
Do you have a bunnings store near you? They have some workshops for DIY projects and I think they’re free. I haven’t been but my sister went to one for laying floor tiles and she thought it was great.
Good luck,

great suggestion, but no where near a bunnings, plus i was sort of hoping for a more formal class/training situation. Not to worry.
I have done a little bit of labouring here and there for a builder/landscaper. It is an excellent way to learn, not only the nitty-gritty of using the equipment you’ll need, but also how to avoid being ripped off by tradespeople. Not only did I learn a hell of a lot, I got paid to do it. As they say, “more than one way to skin a cat”

Hi Misty,
apart from TAFE (and asking them if they know anyone else running courses) check your local paper, maybe even ring the Masters builders Association?
We have Homebase here in WEMBLEY (PERTH) as well as many other places.
Possibly contact a company thta provides Asessing Workplace Training or Train the Trainer- as these places your interested in will have to be certified..
PS- what area are you in?
