orinially from overseas i do not have the differant stigma’s of some of the Melbourne suburbs. I have been considering buying an Ip for awhile now (if funds allow!)and my bf thinks my next choice of IP location will never get GC(and to far from CBD) and have problem tennants. I have spent a bit of time in the area (i love the beach) over the last couple of years (property prices have risen while the boom was happening a bit but not as much as some suburbs).I took my bf for a drive and explored the frankston/north and south on the weekend. My bf still thinks it is a bad idea unless i buy on the beach (long island. out of my price range) i have searched on this site and it has been mentioned before although 6 months to a year ago. just wondering thoughts on this area by you experts.(my bf dosn’t own any property)
Hi Summer,
If you do a search under Frankston I think you will find a thread or two which people such as myself, Yack and Richmond have contributed to, which detail some of the pros and cons of Frankston & Pennisula (bayside) suburbs.
I myself have an IP in Frankston Heights, and believe that with both the new Marina in conjunction with the Mitcham to Frankston freeway will see huge change for the Frankston CBD and surrounding suburbs. Remember also, that any property near water is always worth considering.
I have included a few links that may help in your reserach of the Frankston area; I trust they will be of interest.

Frankston has been tipped for some time as one of the next growth areas, however this doesn’t mean that all parts of Frankston are a “good buy” hence if you do decide to buy there, choose wisely and only after extensive homework. Be aware that Frankston North, albeit still very affordable, is still largely Ministry of Housing properties, and as such growth will be actively slower than say sections like Frankston Central and/or Frankston South.
Cheers,
Jo
P.S. Long island??? [blink]
I thought it was called long island around I think it is Gould street and those surrounding streets. There is a tennis court on the corner of Gould Street called long island tennis centre. Thanks for the links.!!! They are fantastic! I also beleive with alot of development the area may become more popular i will do some more research.[biggrin]
Hi Summer,
Yes I know Gould Street, but not being a “local” I was not aware of it being referred to as “long island”….thanks for the lesson. My understanding is that anything on beach side of the Nepean (which obviously includes “long island”) tends to have higher growth potential, but equally higher price tags. Nonetheless, not all “beachside (of the Nepean)” properties cost mega $$$ and there are some that albeit old and in need of TLC, are still reasonably priced.
Good luck in your quest!!! [biggrin]
Cheers,
Jo
I am a big believer in Frankston. I have properties in Sth Frankston.
I have not touched Nth Frankston but I think over time people will be pushed out of this area.
If your interested look around Sth Frankston, even if you have to pay a little extra.
i think i will have a look around the houses beachside of the neapen highway need a lot of work but great location. Not keen on north frankston but frankston central isn’t as bad
