All Topics / General Property / Water bill from tenant?!
I just received a water bill for my rental property. Apparently the tenant didn’t call to get the water meter read.
I called the water supplier, they said they need the details of the tenant and to tell the real estate agent to contact them. So I rang the real estate, they said: “we will sort it out, we already had a call like this today”. That says a lot for the Real Estate, I thought!
I would like to know what rights do I have if they have difficulties getting it from the tenant? Was it my fault for not checking it in the first place?
Would appreciate answer from someone…
ThanksHi,
The tenant must pay the water usage. It is in their standard lease agreement. I’m assuming there is a separate water meter. It is also the Real Estate Agents responsibility to take the water meter reading when completing an in-going report.
Let me know if you have any problems with either party and I can send you some info. I am a Licenced Real Estate Agent.

http://www.preciserealty.com.auI don’t think there is a seperate meter. They just needed to do new reading as they don’t turn on&off the water.
Are you saying that the Real Estate should sort this out? Can they keep the bond if they have problems? Could you sent me the info you have anyway, I like to be safe then sorry.
Thanks, I really appreciate it!With our IP I pay the water bill. It gives me something to claim at the end of the year and offsets the proffits I make. Also gives the tenant one less thing to skip on if they decide to do a runner.
You will always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
Offsetting profits, Ive heard everything now
My teneants pay water bills as per lease agreement. Agent should finalise all oustanding bills before bond is given back. (as what most people are saying)…….
