21 September 2004 – First home grant denied over meals at mum’s
Financial Review 21/09/04 p3
A Melbourne court denied a first time purchaser the first home owners grant because he did not use his unit as his principal place of residence, even though the man slept at the flat. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal ordered Joseph Ziino to repay the $7000 grant for the unit he bought in the suburb of Nunawading. Ziino slept at his unit for eight weeks but had no telephone, television or appliances and spent only $1.25 worth of electricity during the two-month stint. Ziino told VCAT was too lazy to change his address on the electoral roll or for his driver’s licence. He said he ate meals at his parents’ house.Simon Macks

Fair enough too!!!
Sounds to me like young Joseph hadn’t moved out of home in the first place!!! Liked mamma’s cooking too much to do his own, and the end result for his deception, his goose got well and truly cooked to boot!!! [lmao]
Lesson: Ignorance (and/or laziness) don’t cut the mustard with the law!!! [eh]
If only he had connected the electicity and turned a few lights on each morning.
I wonder what happened to the stamp duty exemptions that the ‘offender’ would have also claimed.
