Ok guys, here we go. Can anybody who has obtained the $7,000 FHOG since Jan 1 2004 (this is when the rules changed), advise on what PROOF the OSR wants from you to prove that you have occupied the property for a period of 6 months.
Will 1 electricty bill do, or do they want an electricty bill for the whole 6 months plus a telephone and gas bill etc.
I have asked alot of people including calling the OSR but cannot get a definitive answer.
The reason Im asking is that I just purchased an investment propert using the FHOG (its my first property in OZ) and I want to rent it out but don’t want to lose the FHOG,so I thought if I had one electricity bill in my name that that would suffice.
If you have a similar experience, then please reply.

Marty – I think you need to do a bit more than one electric bill. If they audit you they will want to see a full intention… which could be supported if you had: a phone connection, power, gas, all your mail directed there. Then you could support your reasons why you decided to leave your home e.g. a new relationship, job transfer, didnt like the neighbourhood.
Be aware that you may be considering committing fraud against the commonwealth.
You may need to get legal advice here.

Someone i know who did something similar, lived in it for six months, touched it up then flogged it off. It’s better than getting done for fraud…
