Normal stampduty on a 500K house is $ 17,990
Normal stampduty on a 597K house is $ 22,355

If the buyer happens to be a firsthomebuyer the figures change as follows :

A $ 500 K house attracts no stampduty thus results in a savingof $ 17,990

A $ 597,000 house however attracts a stampduty of $ 21,815-30 thus resulting in a saving of a mere $ 539-70.

I would have thought that a $ 597,000 buyer would have received a larger concession than just
$ 539-70.

Buying a home for just $ 100,00 more than
$ 500,000, a first homebuyer will get slugged(compared with a $ 500 K first home buyer) some 18 % of the purchase price over $ 500,000.

That’s Carrparity for you. Personally I think it is sick.
