    Hi everybody

    Can i get some feedback on selling a property
    without a real estate agent.
    Pros and cons.It seems to me that a lot
    of properties sell themselves so why are
    we giving all this commission to the agents?

    In Sydney that may well have been the case 6 – 12 months ago. I’m not too sure about now though. I think agents finally have to actually work for a sale now and follow up leads etc.

    We have two no-agent sales in our street. Neither have sold and both have been on the market for over 4 months.

    I tried to sell privately recently by putting adds in the major syndey papers and http://www.domain.com.au but got no calls[confused2]. It is also very expensive as you can’t go in ‘run to you sell it’.
    I did get many calls from real estate agents hanging around like voltures.
    If I do it again I will get some signs made professionally and put them around the neighbourhood.

    pp,

    Properties sell themselves in a boom market.

    We’re not any more.

    According to some figures I saw last year on where REAs source buyers:

    Signs are still the number one source of leads for REAs – so a big sign is a MUST.

    A well-worded ad in the appropriate publications is number 2.

    Online is number 3 but gaining on 2.

    The REA’s database is in fourth spot – though this may be more due to how tardy many REAs are in a boom in keeping peoples’ details :)
