    Help!!!

Over the past 6-7 years hubby and I have made sacrifices to do things we want, Ie. travel. The only problem is we have neglected our social and interest side of our life in a bid to save money.

Now we are settled into what looks like a long term place, we are stuck in a rut to get ourselves motivated to do things we want. I mean its as simple as getting out and playing social sport but we can’t seem to get out of the mind set its gonna cost heaps of money.

It’s getting us down as we do not feel fulfilled in ourselves. How can we get out of this rut and get motivated to do anything!??

    g’day scremin.

good question. i keep telling myself ‘the best things in life are free, and ‘if the problem is money then its not a problem at all’.

i know that doesnt help when all youre craving for is a new set of golf clubs a new car and a trip to fiji.

so i knick onto the golf course just b4 dusk when the pro shop is closed and play 5 holes for free, pretend my car is better than what it is, and watch getaway every chance i get..

    hope this helps

    Hi Scremin,

I recommend you do (or should that be ‘redo?’) a budget and earmark leisure/recreation spending money and maybe even time until the new found habit gets into your system.

That way you will not feel guilty when it is gone, you keep within your limits and the ‘mental anguish’ is removed from the equation after the initial figure is set.

    Hi Screamin,
Change the way you think about the cost of the social/interest side of your life.

Sure it’s gonna cost $ to play sport or whatever, but if you look at that cost as an ‘investment’ into the quality of your life it might be a bit easier to bear.

Spend the money now on things that – when you’re 80 or so years old if you hadn’t done – you wished you had….

As they say, no point dying rich, you can’t take it with you!

There are plenty of sports that don’t cost too much money to play. Your town is big enough to have plenty of sporting clubs and you are bound to find one both you and your husband enjoy:

Running, bowls (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it), soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball etc etc. The only money is usually registration each year and maybe a uniform (for some sports).

Sport does not have to cost much money and I know how much it can do to lift up one’s self esteem. I have been playing sport reguarly pretty much all my life and I use it for many things.

    1. Socialising
    2. Competitiveness
    3. Fun
    4. To vent anger or another emotion.
    5. To get fit (the fitter you are, the better you feel, sleep, relate to people etc)

Do yourselves a favour and join some sort of club. WA has such great weather, take advantage of it.

Here’s another idea, why not give each other a present of a personal trainer for an hour. He/she will get you started and make exercising feel more fun. That will get you more motivated. Get the endorphins running around your body and I bet you will feel great.

I have been really fit now for a couple of years and I sometimes I find it hard to motivate myself to swim laps or go for a run, but then I remind myself how much work I have put in to get where I am today, that helps.

Been thinking about it all. Just need to sort out our goals physically and socially. It’s a shame there isn’t a good gym in gero we can go to.

    Hmmm…maybe a great business idea…

Looking at buying some anthony robbins stuff for interest.

Will let you know more later.
    Cheers for ideas.

    Hi Scremin,

We can understand what you are saying…[strum]

We also were in a rut until recently, as being self employed, and trying to get really focused in property, as well as keeping our 2 girls entertained was very difficult.

For entertainment on weekends we dragged them from town to town searching for positive cashflow deals. Not much fun for them.[weird]

We hadn’t had a real holiday in MANY years, and so we finally bit the bullet and went to Fiji for 10 days, basically to repay the kids for the last few months of neglect!

You have no idea how a holiday can refocus and remotivate you. [specool]

If your budget can’t afford much, then there are lots of things that you can do like bushwalking, bikeriding…etc..that get you into the outdoors, and get your brain active.

Don’t let routine ruin your life.[upsidedown][upsidedown]

ENJOY – remember your family comes first!!

    Good luck,

    Del

I’m off to NZ again, to search for more GREAT +ve cashflow deals.
If you’re interested in hearing about any quality deals then PM me for details!! This is a genuine offer.

    Thanks Del,

Its getting OUT of the habit of not doing anything to save money that we’re finding hard. It sounds stupid but when you’ve been scrimping for nearly 6 years, it becomes second nature.

We are trying to get out bike riding more often now both bikes are working. I’ve decided I’m gonna get back into sewing and other crafty stuff as that’s what I enjoy.

plus encourage Cremin to get on with activities he enjoys too. Bugger the cost (well…not totally).

I have to admit, it has been a bit hard making friends in a new town too…

    Cheers
    Steph.

    Hey Steph,

It’s a shame there isn’t a good gym in gero we can go to.

…well, why don’t you look at opening one up for the locals – it will create a good business for you while socializing with all the locals and talk to them about your business (property investing) aswell – you and Cremin can manage it – I think this is a brilliant idea for a business and it will be very successful over time…

    Kind Regards,
    George.

Hi there, I have found trying to make money can make me just MISERBALE….. while other people just thrive on it.
But I have found the answer for me has been a holiday home, a BOAT, fishing and cruising along and enjoying life. Now it dont come cheap but it is a trade off and seems to be making a difference in my life.

    Hi Scremin,
I hope this applies to your situation and my apologies if it doesn’t. I was in a rut. Hated work but pay was good when applying for a loan. My boss is Stalin. Again, sanity vs good income to buy more property. I dont know why but I was ful of anger and for some reason I purchased a cheap bench press and free weights. Cost $400. Slowly added more weights, equipment as I started to work out and found I had a vehicle to release my anger at my boss and work politics. After 4 years, all up cost probably $1000. I live in a tiny bungalow. In it, it is my office, gymnasium, a place to crash when I’m not at work (I mainly work at night looking after people with disabilities). The end product from hating my boss and job politics and taking it out by working out resulted in an interest in body building. I then found a discipline in something I enjoyed. I now apply this to investing. The more you put into it, the more you will get out from it. It got to the point where I reached 200kg and 5% body fat. I considered competing in amateur competition. To do this my life revolved around work, sleep, working out and the cycle would continue. The thing that maintained all this was just self discipline as a side effect from hating my job and boss and finding a constructive way (win-win??) to benifit from my negative situation (no effort required). If you have a partner then you have one up on me as you can use each other for motivation and support. I wonder how far I could have gone if I had a training partner to spot for me to get that extra rep out to go to failure. I haven’t worked out now for 6 months as I use the time I spent working out now devoted to property. The weights are still here though and considering the final outlay would equal just one year’s membership means they will be there when I’m financially free to go back harder and heavier than ever. I’ve just transferred one discipline (body building for property building) for another. Just one way from turning a negative in one’s life into a positive. Prior to the work situation I had absolutely no interest in body building or property investing. They both are a good example of how you can find a beneficial solution to a negative situation. I hope you may be able to draw some help from my experience as I have from others.
    Regards,
    Gatsby.

    Scremin,

Budget a certain amount per month for entertainment.

Then penalise yourselves if you fail to spend it.

Thanks to all for ideas and suggestions.

Geo, I would love to open up a gym. S’pose Cremin and I could look into the outlay etc etc… Have some friends who recently moved to Gero to that are wanting a “nice” gym to go to.

    I wonder…

Anyone got any ideas how much it would cost to set up a half decent gym?
    CHeers
    Steph.

p.s… Oh yeah! Our loan was approved and we move into our own place soon!!! Can’t wait! Figures aren’t +geared yet, but we have to do some improvements then we’ll run them again…
