    Hi Bear,

I am currently in the process of developing a very rudimentary idea along the lines of a personal coach (mentor) which would include a full day workshop and a 12 month follow up program to help people fulfil their aspirations.

My role would be to listen and challenge people to achieve their goals as distinct from giving advice and much could be accomplished by email, with face to face options possible.

Also tossing around organising a local ‘well being’ expo for local businesses that could be classified as being in the personal growth/development side of people from naturopaths to financial advisors – the whole range would be covered.

And then an ‘online’ bookstore with suitable tapes etc.

    Hi Bear,

I would see myself in the specialist mentoring role rather than the provider of specialist knowledge – leave that to the experts.

Given I have nearly 20 years experience as a school principal with much time spent talking to people for a whole variety of reasons I believe that I am well placed to help people establish their goals and then check and balance them to ensure they are doing what they planned to do rather than going home and watching Home and Away – or similar.

So in some repspects I envisage becoming their conscience – anyone want a free trial? [biggrin]

Becoming my conscience, Derek? I DARE ya! When you have finished messing with my conscience, will I look like this? [eh] or this? [exhappy]

And I am supposed to come home and not watch crap TV?? What *else* is there to do? Or am I missing out on one of life’s secrets? I do meaningful work for a living. Whn I come home, I wanna be like this: [upsidedown] It’s good to shut down, sometimes, don’t you think?

    Hi Kay,

It is good to shut down from time to time but then there are people out there who need a push and a shove (or should that be encouragement[biggrin]) to fulfil their dreams – whatever that may be and who also get frustrated and/or disillusioned because they don’t feel like they are getting anywhere.

Obviously there are others who feel perfectly happy with their lot and would not need anyone to push them along.

Well, here a little story some might find inspirational ….
In high school I started buying stamps & coins from other kids. Got to the stage where some of the more enterprising were stealing from relatives, housebreaking etc. Of course to fund their smoking habits & perhaps booze (no other drugs in them days). I’d buy collections for a song & flog some of the good stuff to stamp/coin dealers on Sat mornings.
Later in high school an older friend got into the army & started giving me cartons of condoms (sold @ 10c / condom) & porn (sold @ 20c / page). Profit was huge, since all my stock was free.
Unfortunately I eventually got into trouble for selling the condoms – kids were making water bombs out of them – so you can imagine the ruckus when there were dozens being thrown around the place each day. Most unfair that I should cop cane+detention for other’s misdeeds!
Never got into trouble selling porn but word got out – the tough guys would ‘rumble’ me (somewhere between the bus stop & entrance gate) to make off with them.
Anyway, at least I ended up with a great coin / stamp collection, most of which were sold off on ebay recently for big bucks, to fund other ventures!

Disclaimer: in light of Derek’s comment below, I’d like to add that I do not advocate dealing in stolen or offensive material as part of a plan for long term wealth creation.

    Cheers, Paul.

Tomori’s story reminds me of when I was in primary school. We use to play marbles, and after a while of losing all of my the marbles that my mother would buy for me (as I wasn’t very good), I still wanted to play but never had any marbles to play with. So I would pick on orange off our tree b4 leaving for school, set it up and made up the rules of 1) Only tommies to be used to play for the orange (big marbles) 2) no 1st pops, so they had to give me one b4 they could even have a shot.

I never had any shortages of people wanting the orange so I would have pockets full of tommies which I would then set up to get normal marbles in a similar manner. I then went on to become a very good player at marbles and never ever went to school with any but would leave with many as well as selling them thru out the day making more pocket money in a day then I would in a week with my parents.

I had bags of marbles full at home for years that I kinda kept as a trophy b4 giving them away many years later.

Hey I used to buy second hand computers off ebay and then sell them locally. You can almost always sell them for more locally, at least everywhere I’ve checked.

Just been reading some books by Robert Allen – talking about “nothing down” deals. Just wondering if this would be possible in Australia.

Ideas such as vendor financing. I could see this being of value to say retirees who are worried that taking a large lump sum now may affect the assets test for their pension. So these people may be amenable to taking 50% now and say 50% in 5 years time. Could be a possible way around bank LVRs. Any thoughts on this – seems to be big in the US.

I suppose this has already been done but I would like to know what you all think.
I have been thinking for a while now that I could add to my business a service that helps people make there homes more saleable by adding value in the way of homewares to rent/sell???. I have some good contacts in the homewares and furnishings trade and I believe I could help people make their homes worth more by making them more appealing when they are on the market.

    What do ya think[ponder][?]

    Beck.

    Old but not new

As a kid we used to find the refund bottles at 5cents a pop!

I used to do errands to earn a penny or two, consider an icepop/water-ice was 2 penny, Iw as doing well!

Mum used to make treacle toffee and stuff for bonfire night (yes I am from UK) We used to sell it.

As kids we made a guy for a bonfire and raised funds.

Mum and I used to wash windscreens at motels and put local servos leaflet under window (the days when it was service at a service station) with 1 cents a gallon discount. You bet it brought in the business.

As a teen I used to help my dad collect scrap metal, eg coper and brass, and go trade it in… same with al cans.

Mowing lawns is a pretty lucrative business, but not my cup of tea.

I found delivering newspapers keeps you fit takes a lot of time and doenst earn you much, but its something.

As for other business ideas..still thinking

These are more of what I’ve done than ideas for other people, but feel free to draw from them :) (but if you want to compete, talk to me first!)

Lately I’ve started a company that assists Oil Juniors in sourcing non-traditional finance from high net worth individuals (property & share investors) and also provides corporate support in building their boards, management teams, sourcing lead broker & underwriter & generally holds their hand through the public listing process.

Got an interesting project securing 2nd Tranche funds atm and several others in the pipeline :)

We’ve also started organising a structure to allow smaller investors to directly invest in oil & gas prospects. It’s high risk, you can lose all your money, but with good prospects the returns can be 3x or better in a 6 month timeframe – either a regular cashflow for the life of the well or we have people who buy the revenue stream off investors for a % of it’s NPV.

Mostly we set these up so we could invest in wells ourselves directly & let a few of our mates into deals, but it’s growing nicely & attracting interest from a diverse bunch of investors from both share and property sides.

I think of it as a form of property development :)

While at primary school I used to run a line writing business. Managed to sell several schools on the idea that hitting students in their sweets money was just as effective as having them write a meaningless line out several hundred times. I think the success of that business is why I print when I handwrite like a 12 year old to this day :)

I also started a car washing business & franchised it through a number of kids to the point where I didn’t have to do any of the work (I’m inherently lazy – and work damn hard so I don’t have to).

Set up a lawn moving biz at Uni that funded several O/S trips, car & a number of conferences. Didn’t bother investing then though.

    Cheers,

    Hi Guys,

recently went overseas, for a 2 week holiday, but just in the last minute, and catching up with a female friend from long ago… end up exteding the trip for another few more days…

… over those few last days, talked to a relative of mine who works for a development company and who many contacts, the relative is a financier/negotiator and we have decide to setup a Corporation, with subsidaries, investing and building other business up and cashflow streams, at the current moment, were in the Corporation Projections and Studies, but also have organised capital, but are now looking for the most suitable amortization.

though the ideas are definetly going ahead, its just a matter of time now…

…though when younger, did collect many stamps and stamps that are very rare to this day, yet they are sitting a while and are slowly appreciating in value, though when about age 10, would go to Balmain, with a friend of mine, and would collect aluminium cans after the game and would sell them back to the recycler…

… this is when, at this age, i was being taught on investing and how to invest and nourish a business to expectations…

    Cheers,
    sis

People 4get that by saving just $3 a day & investing it sensibly
over a working life, you’ll end up with around $1 million

    Hi All,

I am happily married and not at all sleazy but a guy at my work suggested that a topless hairdressers could be a good business venture!

May have some merit considering how boring it is staring at yourself when you’re getting a haircut!
