All Topics / General Property / PPOR… when to call in quantity surveyor?
I move in to my new house in a couple of weeks. We plan to live there for 3-4 years, then move elsewhere and rent it out.
Should I get a quantity surveyor in to work out all future depreciation deductions now, or can I wait until I want to move on?
kkowalsk,
No need to do it now. Won’t affect the numbers, plus you will pay anything from $300 to $600 for the report. Best to do it when it is an IP so you can claim it.James
Hi kkowalsk,
Agreeing with James.
Additionally things may change (new pool, pergola, etc) that may also add other deductions in the meantime.

Not only that..
But more importantly, getting in a QS now, would not be a tax deductible !! As well as not benefical at this stage..

You will be wasting your money of you do it now because I can’t use it anyway.
While you are living it, maybe you end up putting extra things like a/c…into the house then you have to get another QS again….
So it is better to do it when you rent out the property.
