Qld: Avoid rate squeeze – go west for a $1500 home
Housing Qld (BRISBANE)
Australians being squeezed out of the housing market may want to
consider moving to outback Queensland, where homes are selling for
the price of a personal computer.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Queensland regional report
shows one shire in the state’s west has recorded a median house
price of $1,500.
Bulloo is located in grazing country and has a population of 500
people.
The bureau says two isolated fibro houses in the area sold for
under $1,500 in the past year.
However a local real estate agent says a figure of $15,000 for a
house in the shire’s main town of Thargomindah is a more realistic
price.
Meanwhile, the popular Sunshine Coast resort town of Noosa
recorded the top median price of $265,000 in 2002, compared with
the state figure of $180,000.
The statistical snapshot also shows that Queensland’s population
grew faster than any other state, rising by about 80,000 people to
3.7 million.
AAP RTV pjo/sc/rh/rpShit. I wonder what they would rent for.
